Mississippi Homeland Security - There are various tabletop exercises and seminars scheduled through the Mississippi Homeland Security office that are offered with numerous organizations including the Health Department, MEMA, State Fire Academy, etc.  This link will provide you with the name of the event as well as the person to contact for enrollment in the classes.

Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP)  - ODP is the primary office responsible for providing training, funds for the purchase of equipment, support for the planning and execution of exercises, technical assistance and other support to assist states and local jurisdictions to prevent, plan for, and respond to acts of terrorism.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - FEMA provides many programs, courses, and materials to support emergency preparedness and response for emergency personnel as well as the general public. 

NIMS COMPLIANCE: Effective this year any Hospital or Healthcare System is required to implement National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements # 7, 9, 10 & 11 by Sept. 30, 2007 in order to be eligible for any type of assistance through federal preparedness funding agencies such as HRSA or HS. This includes direct monetary funding for materials such as pharmaceuticals and/or indirect participation in equipment or training programs.  For information concerning NIMS Compliance, please check the NIMS section located under the Resources tab to the left, or, you may access the ONLINE TRAINING site (Virtual Campus) and follow the directions.  For printable directions on any NIMS course access, please click HERE...for NEW NIMS INSTRUCTIONS FOR HEALTHCARE COURSES- 2007click HERE - Remember, the courses are free... Each course should take 1-3 hours depending on your computer savvy. It is recommended that you download and print the study guide for each course along with the final exam and simply mark off each answer as you read through the guide. Then you can log into the website and click on the "Take Final Exam" link at the bottom of each course description page. Submit and they will send you a successful completion certificate via e-mail. Upon receiving your e-mail, forward the certification to Pam Hemphill with your employee ID number. The required training courses are IS-100 & IS-700, and if directly involved in Management and Emergency Management on campus (whether by committee, police or an essential department) you will need to also complete the IS-200 & IS 800 courses.

National Disaster Life Support - BDLS/ADLS - The Course held November 12, 13, 14, 2008 was wonderful.  Thanks to all who took time to attend and especially our student actors from Northwest Rankin.  The new pictures are posted on the site - access the album by clicking on the link listed below...thanks to everyone for making this event a huge success - Check back for possible dates for a course to be held in the Spring of 2009.

CME Credit Form -

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The American Medical Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for BDLS and 15.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for ADLS.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

SMAT - State Medical Assistance Team - South Region 

Level II State Medical Assistance Teams (SMAT II) are designed for deployment throughout Mississippi, as well as out of state.  The South Regional SMAT has two Field Hospitals with each having a build-out capacity of providing a 50 bed Field Hospital during disaster events.  If you are interested in this program, please complete the Application Packet provided below and submit the completed forms to Pam Hemphill, SMAT Coordinator, University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 N. State Street, Jackson, MS  39216.

University of New Mexico Program

Medical students will be trained in medical control, mass triage and patient decontamination, and will receive certification in ACLS (for experienced providers), PALS, and ADLS.  They will be given the opportunity to complete training requirements for national DMAT and US&R teams.
